Howard

April 16, 2021 by

Howard, the most recent addition to my family (adopted Jan. 13, 2021), left this life Sunday, April 11, 2021, two days shy of our three-month anniversary. The bravest boy imaginable, Howard was adopted as an 8 year old (?) feral “barn” cat from Weld County Humane; true he was deathly afraid of people, but with patience and time, he was beginning to hope that he could trust me. He wanted to be friends but was so cautious. Unfortunately, even then the FIP virus was beginning to ravage his little body; I just didn’t know because I only saw him the first couple of months when he was under the end table. I was unaware he was ill until he slowly, then completely, stopped eating. Poor Howard couldn’t catch a break; three days after a vet visit and a diagnosis, he left us. Still, he left loved, and I can hardly stop weeping for missing him and the lost possibilities.

What are the next steps? How do you make this final period of your companion’s life as peaceful as possible? Read more...
